It’s FREE WEEK at RGRS BITCHES! Get ready to rock out every night this week through Saturday, and save some of those dollars for booze and tips. With these shows, you’ll want to get there when doors open at 9 p.m. to guarantee you’ll get in. FYI: It’s only free to 21 and up. The young ‘uns have a $3 cover, which is well worth it.

Monday August 17

RGRS – FREE WEEK w/ Felt & Fur, Future Self, Slackbeat, and Prism Cloud
Free week begins with the smooth sounds of Prism Cloud, the more uptempo beats of Slackbeat, and rounded out with Denton’s own dancey group, Future Self. It’s a great commencement, showcasing a variety of sounds within the realm of modern alt rock. Headlining is Felt & Fur. Their site proclaims them “Funeral Pop,” “Doom Disco,” and “Space Rock.” With all the dark synth and extra poppy, (you’re gonna dance your face off) fun sounds, this is probably the most accurate description for them.

Dan’s Silverleaf – Paul Slavens and Friends – 8 p.m.
I’m sure most of you are familiar with Denton legend Paul Slavens (remember Ten Hands? Yeah, that’s him). Well, every week he gathers some friends for a crazy-fun FREE show. It’s a good way to kick off your week and a good excuse to tear yourself away from your Netflix queue.

Tuesday August 18

RGRS – FREE SHOW w/ The Single Issues, Snailmate, True Fallacy
The Single Issues headlines this free night with their brand of catchy, almost surfer rock. It’s kind of like if Grandaddy and Beach House had a music baby. Opening for them is Snailmate, from Phoenix, AZ, and Dallas group True Fallacy. Both of these acts might seem an unexpected pairing of funky beats and heavy rock for The Single Issue’s poppier sound, but it’s a fantastic lineup and it’ll make for a fun night.

Wednesday August 19

RGRS – FREE SHOW w/ Creepeth, Flesh Narc, Bad Feeler, and Burning Moon
Want something loud to do on Wednesday night? This lineup of four bands is sure to please you. Throughout the night, your ears will be filled with sounds of alt rock, punk, and metal. Mind you, these bands come from far and wide (including Nashville and Canada), so come out and give them some southern hospitality.

Thursday August 20

RGRS – FREE SHOW w/ Friday Mean, Calliope Musicals, Swandiver, Danny Diamonds
Presented by I Love Math Records, you’re gonna find this event proves that Thursday is the new Friday. Opening is Danny Diamonds, Denton’s beloved musicman (Daniel Folmer) who has brought you songs from a variety of monikers. Following up is Swandiver, also from Denton, and Austin group Calliope Musicals (outlaw country rock with a female vocalist—yes please). Finishing the night is Friday Mean, headed by Denton’s own Conor Wallace.

Andy’s Bar – The Rotation: Denton Fenders + Friday’s Foolery – 9 p.m.
Every week Andy’s brings you a taste of something funky, something jazzy, and something a little off the beaten path. This week, check out this set featuring the dirty blues group Denton Fenders and mega-groovy Friday’s Foolery. If you needed any more convincing, this is a FREE show, so catch it if you can.

A House Show! – Micah Schnabel (Two Cow Garage) and Friends – 7 p.m.
We know Denton is famous for it’s crazy house shows, and this one is no exception. Vanessa and Micah are traveling the world, so we’re sending them off with a farewell show. Come and watch a little music—Kim Nall and AM Ramblers are gonna be joining—and purchase some original artwork by Vanessa herself. The event is at “Matt and Petra’s Old House” (you’ll remember them from Hares on the Mountain and a variety of other local acts) and they said to bring a chair—the house is gonna be empty. It’s going to be a house party to remember, for sure.

Rockin Rodeo – The Fair Preview Party – 8 p.m.
Catch acts performing at the North Texas State Fair and Rodeo before they even hit their stage! They’re calling it the biggest dance party in Denton, which, seeing from the list, probably isn’t far from the truth. I mean, when you have The Charlie Daniels Band and Josh Abbott Band on the same stage you’re probably in for a wild night.

Friday August 21

North Texas State Fair and Rodeo – Until August 29th
Every year, that area over east in Denton sees quite a bit of action. It’s none other than the annual fair, which brings with it a ton of great music, amusements, and tasty, albeit not heart-healthy, food. This year, 30 acts will be hitting the stage. This first night opens up with country headliner Randy Rogers Band. You guys remember Ronnie Milsap? You know, the guy who topped country charts back in the day? Yeah, you can catch him on Saturday night. And don’t forget the final headliner, the Charlie Daniels Band. The fair opens on the weekdays at 6 p.m. and at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

RGRS – FREE WEEK w/ Rectal Hygenics, Deterge, Filth, Crisis Actor, Hymens, Gouge
House of Tinnitus starts your FREE WEEK weekend off with this heavy metal set, featuring six bands from all over. Looking at this generous lineup, it probably goes without saying that this show is going to be loud enough to hear at the Oklahoma border. And really, who doesn’t want to thrash and blow their eardrums out by the end of the week? Right?

Dan’s Silverleaf – Seward, Felt & Fur, The Cush – 9 p.m.
There’s a lot going on this week, we get it. But seriously, one act you should try to catch is Seward, hailing from Barcelona. They’re a sort of jazz-infused rock—and they’re really fun to watch. Opening for them is The Cush and Felt & Fur (in case you missed them earlier this week).

Rockin Rodeo – The Fair After Party – 8 p.m.
From now through the 30th, Rockin Rodeo is featuring an after party for bands playing at the fair. This means, you pretty much don’t have a reason to catch these country acts before they leave. Plus, if you have a fair wristband, you can get in for free and see anybody from days you’ll miss.

Saturday August 22

RGRS – FREE WEEK w/ Riverboat Gamblers, Codetalkers, Grave City, JWID
Tonight is the finale of Rubber Glove’s FREE WEEK. If you haven’t seen the Riverboat Gamblers before, be sure to check this show out (and come early, ‘cause it will be packed). The general expectation for the night should be high energy, very heavy rock, a little punk, and fun abounding.

Dan’s Silverleaf – Petty Theft – 9 p.m.
This cover band’s name is a clever pun of their M.O. If you’re a fan of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, then you’ll find this show is gonna be a blast. Their set of Petty classics has become a cult hit in the metroplex and they have a tendency to filling rooms up fast. It might not be on a Thursday, but as each song plays you’ll look over to your friends and be all, “#tbt, right y’all?!”

Harvest House – Richard Gilbert’s EP Release Party w/ Exit 380 – 9 p.m.
Singer/Songwriter Richard Gilbert is celebrating his EP release—as well as his birthday—with a few of his musical friends. His beautiful lyrics and sounds are a can’t miss experience. Headlining the night is Denton’s own Exit 380. If you’ve been in Denton for a while, you’ll know the popularity of this group and know, if you want to see any performers at Harvest House on Saturday night, you’ll want to show up early. Folk performer Ellie Meyer opens.

Sunday August 23

Dan’s Silverleaf – Scott is 33! w/ The Nice Up Crew – 4 p.m.
Denton friend Scott Williamson is celebrating his birthday with this FREE happy hour show. He’ll be spinning records for a couple hours and hand it over to The Nice Up Crew. They’ll be DJing you into the night with fun beats you just won’t be able to sit down to. The only way to enjoy this lineup appropriately is to make sure you bring your dancing shoes.
