Monday, September 21
Denton Square – Harmony – A Night of Unified Prayer & Worship – 7:00 p.m.
Dallas’ INITIATIVE brings its worship event to the Denton Square with a goal of a bringing unity through prayer. Harmony is set to begin at 7 p.m. on the Courthouse lawn. Pre-register here.
Harvest House – Keep Denton Beautiful’s Tree Programs Open House – 5:00 p.m.
Head to – where else? – Harvest House to educate yourself on KDB’s tree initiative and get the free tree hookup. Bring your arbor-related questions and get help with tree planting programs. Open to tree-huggers everywhere.
Tuesday, September 22
J&J’s – Bloody Diamonds, The Choir of Arsonists, Sunrise Pilots, Stormy Durant – 8:00 p.m.
Mosey on down to the basement of everyone’s favorite pizza shop and music venue, J&J’s, for touring Canadian duo Bloody Diamonds after getting a warm up that traipses carefree across the genres with Denton acts The Choir of Arsonists, Sunrise Pilots and Stormy Durant. Doors fly open at 8.
Wednesday, September 23
Harvest House – Lady Bee & the Soul Winders – 8:00 p.m.
CoLab, Larry Gee, and DWP songstress Lady Bee takes the stage with her solo project full of funky-soul grooves for this free 21+ show at Harvest House.
The Labb – Trivia Night – 8:30 p.m.
Get your butts in for Wednesday night trivia. The Q’s start flowing at 8:30, so get in on the action for a chance to win some bar cash.
Thursday, September 24
Oak St. Draft House – Downtown Denton Food Truck Festival 3:00 p.m.
Strap on your feed bag and head over to Oak Street from 3-10 p.m. to nosh on some serious grub from over 30 food trucks. With 20 trucks and seating in the parking lot across from Oak St. Draft House and another 10 jamming around East Side Social Club, there will be no shortage of awesome eats from some of your favorite mobile food joints.
Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios – Predopia – 9:00 p.m.
Yes, another one. RGRS plays host to funky-jazzy-psychedelic rockers Yonatan Gat as Denton acts Pearl Earl, Fun Button (who are releasing their EP) and Abacaba get the crowd warmed up. $6 for the 21+ crowd, $8 for the youngins.
Harvest House – A Live One: Phish Tribute – 8:00 p.m.
Phish phans rejoice! A Live One has their Harvest House debut with two sets of your phave Phish tunes starting at 8 pm. The Austin group – billed as “not just a Phish cover band” – plays the phree show open to the 21+ crowd.
Dan’s Silverleaf – Ruby Jane with opening act The Wild Reeds – 8:00 p.m.
Fiddle prodigy Ruby Jane and her band bring their rock-funk-folk-jazz stylings to Dan’s Silverleaf with indie rock fivesome The Wild Reeds taking the stage to start. Tickets are $10 at the door, which opens at 8.
Friday, September 25
Downtown Denton – Oaktopia – through Sunday
Three days of music, two stages, art, yoga, discussion panels, and skateboards descend on Denton venues starting Friday evening. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Minus the Bear are among the big names, accompanied by over 70 local acts, set to rock your eardrums over the weekend.
Downtown Lewisville – Western Days in Lewisville – 5:00 p.m.
Three music stages, the Ghost Horse Native American Dancers, the Legends of Texas gunfighters, and a whole slew of old western-y fun (mechanical bull, working blacksmith, and an Old West jail ripe for photo ops) abound at this entertaining and educational event. Gates open Friday at 5 p.m. and 10 a.m. Saturday. Tickets are available for free download at LewisvilleWesternDays.com, but starting at 7 p.m. both nights a $10 admission will be in place for everyone over 10 years old.
Downtown Lewisville – The Holler Time + Lynyrd Skynyrd – 5:00 p.m.
North Texas country rockers The Holler Time will grace the Huffines stage at Western Days, followed by legendary southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd. Head on down to see 35 Denton’s Wally wail on the guitar before you get your Free Bird on.
Saturday, September 26
Lake Ray Roberts – Greenfest 2015 – 12:00 p.m.
The fourth annual Greenfest takes the fun out of doors and to Lake Ray Roberts Dam Road from 12-6 Saturday with presentations, hikes, music food, and drinks. Learn about the flora, fauna, and fun of the Greenbelt. Hang out for the soothing tunes of Taste of Herb and stay for the fun of the Boxcar Bandits. Advance tickets are $5 or $7 day-of.
North Texas Fair Grounds – Dog Days of Denton – 9:00 a.m.
Don’t miss this paw-fectly good opportunity to hang with your doggone best bud Saturday at the North Texas Fair Grounds. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., catch a canine couture fashion show, live music, demos, performances, contests, and much more. Arts, crafts, and food for both Fido and you add to the fetching fun.
Sunday, September 27
Dan’s Silverleaf – Funky Knuckles, Sidewalk Chalk, Melissa McMillan – 8:00 p.m.
Soulful and jazzy is the name of the game Sunday at Dan’s Silverleaf as Dallas band Funky Knuckles kick it up a notch on Industrial St. with openers Sidewalk Chalk and Melissa McMillan. Tickets are $10 at the door.
The Panhandle House Recording Studios – Official Nakid Magazine Oaktopia Fest After Party – 12:30 a.m.
Not one to go quietly into the night, Oaktopia Fest wraps with a big-ass all-nighter hosted by Nakid Magazine. After all the fun is done at the music venues, Panhandle house will throw open its doors at 12:30 a.m. to keep the noise going with art installations and some of DFW’s killer musical artist. If you’re lucky enough to get in, you can BYOB or score some of their stash (while it lasts).
