Tuesday December 15
City of Denton, City Hall – Public Hearing on Gas Plants Proposal – 6:30 p.m.
You know an F word we don’t like? F-quality. That’s our air, folks — that means it’s bad. Guess what? City Council has plans to build two gas-fired power plants in our humble little town, which will not only pollute our air more, but also cause other significant issues. Come out to City Hall and band together with your neighbors to discuss how this truly impacts us all and how we can remedy it.
Wednesday December 16
The LABB – Seinfeld Trivia Night – 8 p.m.
Test your Seinfeld knowledge at The LABB for their weekly trivia night. As usual, there will be prizes awarded to the two top teams and insane drink specials all night.
Thursday December 17
Hailey’s Club – Afroman, Fab Deuce – 9 p.m.
You know that song from forever ago, “Because I Got High”? You know, the one you always hear at house parties and at the end of the night at bars? That’s Afroman. He’s stopping by Hailey’s before it closes for good for one last show on their stage. Tickets are $15–$20 and totally worth it.
Oak St. Drafthouse – Star Wars Costume Contest and Pint Night – 6 p.m.
Hey Star Wars fans, come out and show your true colors at OSDH’s Star Wars event. Obvs there’s gonna be a costume contest, so it’s important you don your craziest attire. Plus, they’ll be giving out a FREE commemorative pint glass and More Fun Comics is giving away FREE comics. We love FREE shit! Matthew Sallack of Otter Illustrations will be selling some sweet artwork for you to fill your walls. May the force awaken within you.
Dan’s Silverleaf – Boxcar Bandits – 9 p.m.
Local talent Boxcar Bandits is playing a FREE show at Dan’s and it’ll be a holiday treat. They’ve been playing stages around Denton for years and years, gathering an increasing fan base with every show. If you like Country/Folk/Americana, you’ll love them.
J&J’s Pizza – Naughty & Nice Charity Comedy Showcase – 8 p.m.
Do you like local comedy? Come out for some laughs in the J&J’s basement and help out a good cause. A $5 admission gets you in, and the proceeds go to Toys For Tots, bringing Christmas to children who may not otherwise have one. It’s a full lineup of seven comedians, with Alex Gaskin headlining.
Friday December 18
Sweetwater Grill & Tavern – Christmas Break for You – 4 p.m.
This one goes out for all the teachers out there. Sweetwater wants to reward the hardworking folks out there who shovel education into the next generation’s little brains. Teachers get FREE chips and salsa and specials on margarita and mimosa flights. Start your Christmas Break right — sloppy drunk.
Dan’s Silverleaf – Big Tasty and the Moonshiners – 5 p.m.
Sometimes all you want after a long freakin’ week is your favorite rock hits and a damn beer. If that’s you this Friday, this is a show you won’t want to miss. Big Tasty is no stranger to the Dan’s stage and they’ve gotten quite a following since they formed. Come out and hear classic rock hits and unwind before the holidays smacks you in the face. Another reason to come out: It’s FREE.
No Label Brewing – The Vessel Run: No Label Star Wars Pub Crawl – 6 p.m.
With all the hype for the new Star Wars movie, it’s no wonder there are so many themed events going on around town. This one is pretty special though. Join No Label Brewing for this five-bar pub crawl, with food, FREE pint glasses, and a costume contest with tons of prizes to give away. If you’ve got an amazing costume, trust us, you won’t want to miss out.
Dan’s Silverleaf – The Holler Time – 9 p.m.
Have you ever wondered what it would sound like if you took alt rock, put it in a room with country, and let them mingle for a few hours? If your curiosity is getting the better of you, you’ll need to come and find out. 35 Denton’s own Wallace Campbell will be on stage, so obvs we’re huge fans. $7 cover.
Saturday December 19
East Side – Beer & Cheese Pairing with Professor Bonard – 4 p.m.
YOU GUYS, how amazing would it be to try delicious cheeses with quaffable beers? I mean, heaven, right? Well, for $30 you get to do a special pairing event, hosted by Certified Cicerone (that’s a beer expert) Justin Bonard. That fee gets you five or six cheese and beer samples, plus get schooled by a someone who knows their shit about both. Cheers!
Dan’s Silverleaf – David Pierce presents: ‘Twas the Night – 4 p.m.
Get into the holiday spirit with David J. Pierce and his Holiday Orchestra for a night of eating, dancing, and general merriment. For $15, you get hors d’ouevres with the show and $40 gets you a seated three-course meal by Denton’s renowned cook, Pam Chittenden, and drinks. It’ll be a lovely evening folks.
Sunday December 20
Dan’s Silverleaf – Raised Right Men, Kim Nall, Isaac Hoskins, AM Ramblers – 5 p.m.
Get ready for the ultimate #Sundayfunday, y’all. This incredible lineup of Denton favorites is gonna leave you wanting more. It’s a show with all the country/folk/bluegrass you could possibly want. Take it from us, you’ll probably want to call in sick on Monday. $5 gets you in.
